On Saturday,
November 18, 2006, at the Post Conference Planning Meeting of the
Texas Annual Conference, Bishop Gregory G. M. Ingram, Presiding
Prelate, appointed Reverend Kevin L. Hodge, to serve as Pastor of
Clear Lake A.M.E. Church. Our new pastor comes to us with a vision
to take our congregation “to the next level” of spiritual growth,
church construction, and church expansion.
Pastor Hodge came to the Texas Conference from the South Carolina
Annual Conference. Pastor Hodge was groomed by God in the Young
People’s Department (YPD) of the A.M.E. Church at his home church,
Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, of Mullins South Carolina, where his mother,
now serves as pastor. |

He has held several offices in the
YPD throughout his youth and was elected Episcopal YPD President.
God began calling him into the ministry while he was in college.
He answered God’s call during his junior year. He went on to be
admitted to the South Carolina Northeast Annual Conference at
Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, Darlington, South Carolina, where
his mother, Reverend Cynthia Vertell Brown, served as church
pastor.
In an effort to give Pastor Hodge a well-rounded view of church
leadership from both the male and female perspective, Reverend
Cynthia V. Brown put into operation a unique plan: for two Sundays
of each month, she kept Pastor Hodge at Greater Bethel A.M.E.
Church to observe, to study, to participate, and to learn; on the
other two Sundays, she sent Pastor Hodge to be trained by Reverend
Ronnie Brailsford, Pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Columbia, South
Carolina who is now a candidate for the Episcopacy. Reverend
Hodge, also, received guidance from Rev. Arthur S. Jones, former
pastor of Third Street Bethel A.M.E. Church, Richmond, Virginia.
Pastor Hodge holds two degrees: An Associate Degree in Marketing
from Florence-Darlington Technical College and a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in
Accounting from Coker College. He is a Property Accountant. He is
a loving father of his son, Kevin Jadin Hodge. He is the son of
Harvey L. Hodge, Jr., and Reverend Cynthia Vertell Brown. He has
one brother, Attorney Marcus L. Woodson and is grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Lee and Joan Cooper Brown.
Pastor Hodge comes with a spirit to immerse himself in meeting the
needs of his flock. Pastor Hodge is a “people person.” No one is a
stranger to him and he loves God and loves doing the Lord’s work.
